Plan-sheet workspace

Puck

Stop measuring plats with a PDF ruler. Calibrate, close traverses and draft in survey coordinates.

Puck is a PDF workspace for land surveyors. Calibrate a plat to survey coordinates, mark up and measure, draft on the sheet, close a traverse from its calls, OCR the sheet, and export DXF, GeoJSON or CSV.

Standouts

Why Puck.

Graded

Calibration that tells you how good it is

Two points fit a similarity transform; three or more fit a least-squares affine with residuals, graded Good, Warning or Distorted, so a stretched scan is caught before you measure from it.

Closure

From the plat's calls to a closed traverse

Highlight or type the calls and Puck reports the closure ratio, area, a verdict and the worst call. Drafting to CAD waits until the sheet is calibrated and the closure is acceptable.

35

Real CAD on the sheet

Thirty-five drafting tools work on the calibrated page, so the linework you trace is already in easting and northing when it leaves as DXF.

AI that asks first

Every AI feature is off until you turn it on. Puck shows what it will send before each request, honors cost caps and an administrator lock, and keeps an audit log that holds no keys, prompts or images.

OCR tuned for bearing calls

Offline OCR has a mode built for bearings and distances, and Claude OCR is there when you choose to use it.

Your markups stay honest

If the source PDF changes underneath your markups, Puck blocks sensitive outputs until you review the change.

Overview

Built for survey plan sheets, not generic PDF review.

Open plats, boundary surveys and engineering drawings in a workspace made for them: calibrate to survey feet, mark up with intent, and pull structure from the sheet instead of retyping it.

Calibrate the sheet to survey space

Place control points, fit a similarity or least-squares affine transform, and read easting and northing live on the page.

Draft and close a traverse

Draft from the calls on the sheet and check closure, ratio and area locally before anything goes to CAD.

Hand off coordinates, not screenshots

Export DXF and GeoJSON in survey coordinates, CSV takeoff registers, and searchable OCR PDFs.

Features

What Puck does.

Markup

Markup on a calibrated page

Lines, clouds, callouts, stamps, counts, dimensions, highlights and measurements on the same page as your drafting, organized with layers, Tool Chest presets, comments, review status and attachments.

  • Layers, spaces and Tool Chest presets
  • Comments, review status and attachments
  • Search across text, OCR and markups
Calibrate

Survey coordinates on the PDF

Two points give a similarity transform; three or more give a least-squares affine with residuals and a quality grade. Read easting and northing anywhere on the sheet.

  • Similarity or least-squares affine
  • Residuals and a Good / Warning / Distorted grade
  • Scale presets and live E/N readout
Takeoff

Measure what the sheet shows

Distance, area, angle, radius and count tools on the calibrated page, with takeoff registers you can export to CSV or bring into Excel.

  • Distance, area, angle, radius and count
  • CSV registers and Excel Power Query export
Traverse and COGO

From metes and bounds to a closed traverse

Highlight or type the calls and Puck computes closure locally: ratio, area, a verdict and the worst call. Manual mapping walks the traverse call by call.

  • Closure ratio, area and verdict
  • The worst call, flagged
  • Send to DXF or to CAD once it closes
Drafting

CAD drafting right on the sheet

Thirty-five tools to draw, modify and annotate, with a command line, snaps and a curve solver, and a DXF drawing kept for each page.

  • Draw, modify and annotate tools
  • Command line, snaps and curve solver
  • Drafting in the calibrated frame
OCR

Text you can search and reuse

Offline Tesseract OCR with a mode tuned for bearing calls, or Claude OCR when you turn it on, and export a searchable PDF.

  • Offline OCR with a bearing-call mode
  • Optional Claude OCR
  • Searchable PDF export
Sheets and sets

Work the whole drawing set

Compare revisions as images or text with registration and batch reports, organize drawing sets with slip sheets and review sessions, and merge, split, insert, rotate or crop pages.

  • Image and text compare with batch reports
  • Drawing sets, slip sheets and review sessions
  • Merge, split, insert, rotate and crop pages
AI extraction (optional)

Claude reads the plan; you keep the judgment

Select a region and Puck asks Anthropic's Claude to find lot lines, easements, right-of-way, monuments and callouts. You accept or reject each feature before it becomes markup.

  • Off by default; uses your own Anthropic API key
  • A disclosure before every request
  • Cost caps, an admin lock and an audit log

Questions

About Puck.

What makes Puck different from a normal PDF viewer?

Puck is built for survey plan sheets: calibrate pages to easting and northing with a graded fit, mark up and measure, draft on the sheet, close a traverse from its calls, and export DXF or GeoJSON in survey coordinates.

Does Puck send my drawings anywhere?

Only when you use a Claude feature, such as AI extraction or Claude OCR. Those stay off until you add your own Anthropic API key, Puck shows what it will send before each request, and every request is logged. Offline OCR, calibration, markup, COGO and drafting run on your machine.

What can I export?

DXF and GeoJSON in survey coordinates, CSV takeoff registers, PNG images, PDFs with your markups burned in, and searchable OCR PDFs.
